It is quite interesting to note that while so much resource pottential of the the State of Orissa was recognised during several decades why Since last one year, about 40 proposals have poured in for setting up steel plants in the state which include a projected 44-million tonne approx capacity build-up, at a massive investment of around Rs 108,000 crore (Rs 1,080 billion). While India as a whole is confined to country's current production of 34 million tonne steel making capacity , there has been a contemplation to nearly doubling the capacity of steel production in the country with the contribution from Orissa steel makers within next 10 years.
